Ecological Landscaping
We define ourselves as ecological landscapers because we take into consideration the relationships between plants and animals in natural communities. We enhance those relationships to create a stronger, healthier environment that maintains and preserves the natural beauty and balance of the local landscape. We believe that gardening with local native plants is essential to providing a regional identity to a designed landscape and nestling a house in its natural surroundings.

Design Consultation & Estimate for Landscape Installations:
All our garden installations start with an on-site visit to your property. We discuss your vision for the landscape, exchange ideas and assess the site conditions. Photos are taken and a proposal and estimate are returned via email for you to consider and for us to discuss further. Please be aware that we are offered more projects than we can accept, so a meeting does not guarantee we will be able to take on all landscape work. We mainly look for projects that are biodiverse and will benefit wildlife, especially pollinators. A property fenced for deer, or where a homeowner is willing to add deer fencing, will be given priority in order for us to focus on biodiversity. Any design ideas that come from the meetings are yours to keep along with plant lists and other customized resources.
If you would like to book a meeting to discuss your garden project, please fill this out:

The on-site visit and followup report is $150. At this time we are only working in Ulster County with a focus on Kerhonkson, Accord, Stone Ridge, High Falls, Olivebridge, and Shokan. For other areas, we might be able to give you a referral depending on what you are interested in, and if we know of another capable ecological landscaper in your area.

Master Plans by Scott Blair
Master Plans create a flow for a property that incorporates both hardscape and garden outlines. These plans are very helpful for new construction or homes that have never been professionally landscaped and lack visual harmony. Not all of our projects require the commissioning of a Master Plan, but they are important when adding paths, patios, driveways, pools, outbuildings or ponds. These plans can be installed quickly with professional help or overtime as budgets allow.
Scott Blair Studio | Landscape Design is based in Ulster County and inspired by the expressive, rustic quality of the Catskills and Hudson River Valley. While holding Nature as the motivating idea we specialize in creating landscape master plans. Whether starting with new construction or updating an existing landscape, site analysis is key to understanding outdoor space planning. If addressing the work all at once or implementing in phases, a master plan provides the benchmark and foresight to ensure design goals are met. If needed, we get involved with site development and source subcontractors to engage in specific tasks such as hardscaping, excavation and arborist services.

Pamela Doan at Forest Flower Gardens (Anywhere in the Hudson Valley)
As an experienced garden coach, I can guide your project at any stage. My services include developing a master plan that can be implemented by me or by you, landscaping project design, a long-term plan for a meadow, or a consultation for a new homeowner who wants to learn about their yard.
I use techniques that improve soil and environmental health. I can help you choose the best plants to create projects that are artful, lovely, and have a positive ecological impact while lowering your carbon footprint.
I’ve studied at the New York Botanical Gardens, the Ecological Landscape Alliance, the UW Botanical Gardens, New Directions for American Landscapes, and the Native Plant Center. I’m accredited by the Northeast Organic Farming Association as an organic land care professional, as well as a Cornell Cooperative Extension master gardener and master forest owner volunteer.
