Eastern Shooting Star
Dodecatheon meadia

White or pink flowers resemble tiny, inside-out umbrellas. or, by stretching your imagination, shooting stars. They rise above a rosette of basal leaves that disappears after flowering. Demands moisture in spring, but, because of their summer dormancy, can tolerate dry conditions during the rest of the year. A good choice for dry shade, rock gardens or along woodland paths. Prefers circum-neutral pH soils.
